The Gap between the English required by Japanese Companies, and the English required by University Classes: What is it and Why does it Exist? In Japan, many universities have started “Career Education” in order to support students’ career development. English Proficiency in six fundamental (basic) and general skills, that Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology offer for career education, will be reviewed in this paper. The gap between the level of English proficiency that the companies expect students have and the universities have will be also discussed with the examples of English needs in companies (business) and TOEIC scores. 企業の求める英語力と大学の「キャリア教育」が求める英語力のギャップ近年、日本の多くの大学で大学生の就業支援としての「キャリア教育」が始まっている。文部科学省が「キャリア教育」の推進に向け提言している6つの基礎的・汎用的能力の中で、特に「学士力」と「就職基礎能力」に焦点を絞り、その中での「英語力」の位置づけについて整理する。日本の企業における英語化の現状やTOEICなどを用い、「企業の求める英語力」と「大学のキャリア教育が求める英語力」のギャップを解明する。大学英語教育における英語力とコミュニケーション能力の向上を目指した「キャリア教育」のカリキュラム構築について考え、初年次からの「キャリア教育」の導入について再検討する。
