This study reviewed the history of book publications regarding music therapy in Korea. Compared to the previous studies covering the content analysis or quantitative analysis, we focused on the author’s scholarly background and the contents of publications. Primary analysis was performed from the interview, phone interview, and e-mails with the authors and editors of publications. Additional secondary analysis was performed from collection of the related newspaper articles, journals, and book chapters. In this study, we found that the authors with diverse educational background published the books of music therapy. However, the music therapists with formal educational training published a number of books with qualities and brought a significant improvement of the music therapy area in Korea. This improvement of music therapy was not dependent on the formal education only. The authors’ sincere interests in therapeutic methods of music produced the music therapists with formal training via the music seminars and the summer courses. Thus, it is meaningful to combine the contents of the books with every historical perspectives of music therapy regardless of the individual viewpoint in each published book.

이 연구는 음악치료 관련 출판물에 관한 선행연구들이 주로 내용분석이나 양적 분석에 국한되었던 것과 달리, 국내 음악치료 도입 초창기부터 최근에 이르기까지 저술된 서적의 출판을 역사적 맥락에서 저자의 배경과 서적 내용을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 연구는 1차적 자료인 관련자와의 면담, 전화 통화, E-mail, 이차적 자료인 신문기사, 관련 저널, 서적 등의 자료수집을 통해 이루어졌다. 이러한 절차를 거쳐 그동안 매우 다양한 배경의 사람들이 다양한 형태의 음악치료 관련 서적을 출판해왔으며, 그 전개 과정 중 국내외 정규 교육을 통한 음악치료사의 등장이 출판된 서적의 수효나 내용면에서 국내 음악치료에 확연히 눈에 띄는 발전을 가져다주었음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 발전은 단순히 정규교육이라는 단일 요건에 의해 이루어진 것이 아니다. 그 기저에는 초창기 저술자들의 음악치료에 대한 관심이 깊게 자리하고 있고, 이러한 관심이 음악치료 세미나 개최와 하계연수 참여라는 사실로 이어져 결과적으로 국내외에서 정규교육을 받은 음악치료사를 배출하게 되었음을 연구를 통해 알 수 있었다. 따라서 음악치료 관련 서적의 출판을 개인의 수행이라는 관점을 넘어 역사적 시각을 가지고 하나의 끈으로 묶어 나가는 것은 매우 의미 있는 일이라 생각된다.
