This paper traces the influence of gene technology on the ways and contents of human life. There have been two modes of approach to the effect of technology on human life. The one is the superficial approach which argues that technologies will cause mankind great welfare or disaster, and the other is the deep approach which argues that technologies will also change the ways and contents of human life through its positive or negative impact. Of course, this article adopt the latter and inquire the techno-anthropologic implication of gene technology.
This paper have five sections. The first shows the motivation and project of this paper. The second contains the writer's view of the technology and two examples of technology which caused great impact on the ways and contents of human life in the history of technology. With these it prepares for the following sections. The third analyses how the gene technology following the modern physical-chemical technology continues to expand the human power. The fourth analyses which result the gene technology causes on the ways and contents of human life when it is applied to the human as both the subject and object of technology. The fifth summarizes the techno-anthropologic implication of gene technology around the diversity through synthesizing these arguments.

이 글은 유전자 기술이 인간 삶의 방식과 내용에 끼치게 될 영향을 추적하고 있다. 기술이 인간의 삶에 미치는 영향을 보는 방식에는 두 가지가 있다. 하나는 기술이 인간의 삶에 복지나 재앙을 가져올 것이라는 피상적 통찰이며, 다른 하나는 기술이 인간에게 그러한 긍정적이고 부정적인 결과를 가져오는 것은 물론이고 그러한 결과들을 통하여 인간의 삶의 방식과 내용을 또한 변경시킬 것이라는 심층적 통찰이다. 물론 이 글은 후자의 입장을 취하고서 유전자기술의 기술인간학적 함의를 따져보고 있다.
이 글은 크게 다섯 부분으로 나누어져 있는데, 첫째 부분에서는 이 글의 동기와 계획을 설명하고 있다. 둘째 부분에서는 이 글이 전제하고 있는 기술에 대한 견해와 기술의 역사에서 인간 삶의 방식과 내용에 큰 영향을 끼친 두 예를 제시함으로써 이후의 논의를 예비하고 있다. 셋째 부분에서는 유전자기술이 근세 물리화학적 기술을 이어서 인간의 능력을 어떻게 계속 확대시켜 나갈 것인가에 대해 분석하고 있다. 넷째 부분에서는 유전자기술이 기술의 주체이자 객체인 인간에 대하여 이용될 때 이것이 인간 삶의 방식과 내용에 어떤 결과를 가져올 것인가를 분석하고 있다. 마지막 부분에서는 이러한 논의들을 종합하는 입장에서 유전자기술의 기술인간학적 함의를 다양성을 중심으로 요약하고 있다.
