This study aims at establishing bases to explain the important notions of body and mind by the cosmic dual forces, the five elements and the life force as fundamental category of the oriental thinking. Perhaps nowhere is this felt more broadly and deeply than in the field of the ups and downs of fortune. But our internal way of thinking deprives oriental categories of their opportunities in studies just because they are of different scientific thinking. Today's oriental medicine have strong influences on the various aspects of the society and the expectations of their curative means are increasing. However oriental medicine is clearly based on oriental fundamental categories. Besides oriental studies have been investigated mental value and character from the beginning. So is based on oriental fundamental categories. Even more striking is the application of the oriental conception. Not only do they involve radical changes of body and mind(some diametrically opposed to the way things have been done in the past), but a few ask us to come to terms with entirely new concepts.

일반적으로 동양학을 구축한 기본 개념들에 대해서 소박한 수준을 벗어나지 못했다거나 비과학적이라고 말하는 것은, 수학적 체계로 표현되는 관계를 자연현상의 본질적인 법칙이라고 믿는 서구 사유의 관점에서 언급하고 있는 표현들이다. 때문에 서구와 다른 방식으로 인간과 세계를 이해하려고 했던 사유체계를 인정하고, 그 특질을 명확하게 하는 일이 필요하다고 생각한다. 수학적인 자연과학에서는 자연현상이 일상경험에서처럼 질적으로 다양하게 인식되는 것이 아니라, 수량이라는 단일한 척도를 매개로 하여 통일적으로 인식된다. 자연현상에 수학을 적용하여 설명하는 것이 자연현상을 언어로 설명하는 것, 이를테면 陰陽과 五行 그리고 氣로 설명하는 것에 비하여 완벽한 것이라거나 체계적인 것이라고 할 수는 없다. 뿐만 아니라 단일한 척도로서 세계를 바라보는 일은 과학을 위해 타당할 수는 있어도, 삶의 의미로 보아서는 적절치 못하다. 거기에다 인간과 인간성의 문제를 오늘날 사회가 직면하고 있는 모든 어려움의 원인으로 언급하고 있는 관점에서도, 물리적 인간이 아닌 구체적 삶의 의미를 구현하는 인간으로써 해석할 수 있을 때, 이 또한 극복할 수 있는 가능성이 열릴 것이다. 다시 말해 살아있는 생명을 죽어있는 기계처럼 다루는 일에서 벗어나야만 해결할 수 있는 문제이다. 하늘과 인간, 자연과 사회 그리고 신체와 정신을 유기체적 구조로 이해하고, 통일적인 존재로서 받아들이는 동양적 사유는 분명히 그 해답이 될 수 있을 것이다. 더구나 마음과 몸의 깊은 연관은 개척되지 않은 넓은 분야이다. 陰陽 五行과 氣로 풀어내는 동양적 사유는 마음과 몸이 깊게 연관되어 있다는 사실을 강하게 시사하고 있다. 그 둘 사이에 들어있는 법칙성이 명확해진다면, 陰陽 五行 그리고 氣는 인간해석의 훌륭한 범주가 될 것이다.
