A Study on Body Language Quoted in Baek, Suk’s Poetry

The features of body language in Beaksuk's poetry properly represent the concrete situation of masses alienated and suppressed under the Japanese colonial era. Body language playing a important role to concretely express characters' behavior are quoted in 66 poem out of 97 poem or 68% in Baeksuk's poetry. Quotation and features of the body language are classified in tree groups; realistic body language, the masses body language and prototypical body language. Realistic body language provides a clue to long for life in the situation under which relationship with and foundation for livelihood was lost in the real life. Quotation of masses body language contributes to build masses awareness through their active livelihood in the impoverished circumstance. Quotation of prototypical body language focuses on establishment of national identity by realizing the prototype of life in the ethnic awareness. Baeksuk who lived in the gloomy era caused by the loss of national sovereignty makes social awareness required to masses concrete using body language. Consecutive poetry writing is most effective way for him to recognize the colonial circumstance most objectively. Therefore, he intentionally quotes body language frequently to show irrational social reality in the Japanese colonial governance. Considering colonial governance metaphorically remarked as lost hometown, body language plays the role to express difficulties and reality of masses' livelihood under adversity realistic and effective.
