This research explores the effect of infographic of printed newspaper and internet newspaper on the memory of audience. Four experimental groups composed by university students were exposed to each treated newspaper of Chosunilbo item about American tornado which were expected to draw high attention and thereafter they responded to written questions, measuring recognition memory and recall memory. The results of this experiment research showed that those who read news items with infographic showed better recognition memory than those who read news items without infographic. However, the effect of infographic on audience's aided recall memory and free recall memory could not be statistically supported. And the difference between media was not dicovered either. Existing researches about the effect of newspaper infographic stayed within the range of printed newspaper, However this experiment research expanded the research range to internet newspaper and measured audience’s recognition memory and recall memory respectively.

본 연구는 인쇄신문과 인터넷신문의 인포그래픽이 수용자들의 기억에 미치는 영향을 탐구하였다. 매체 수용자들의 기사 주목도를 높여주는 것으로 알려진 재난 관련 뉴스를 표본으로 선정하고, 동일한 내용의 뉴스를 인포그래픽의 유무와 인쇄신문, 인터넷신문 등 매체의 종류에 따라서, 4가지 형태의 신문으로 제작하여 대학생들로 구성된 피험자 집단에 노출시킨 후, 설문조사를 통해 재인기억과 회상기억을 측정하고,그 결과를 분석하였다. 분석결과 신문의 텍스트기사와 함께 인포그래픽에 노출된 피험자들은 텍스트 기사에만 노출된 피험자들보다 인쇄신문과 인터넷 신문에서 모두 재인기억이 높게 나타났으며, 이는 통계적으로 지지되었다. 그러나 인포그래픽이 피험자들의 회상기억에 미치는 영향은 인쇄신문, 인터넷 신문에서 모두 통계적으로 지지되지 못하였으며, 인포그래픽이 수용자의 재인기억과 회상기억에 미치는 매체간의 차이도 발견되지 않았다. 신문의 인포그래픽에 관한 기존의 연구들이 인쇄신문의 영역에 머물러 있었으나, 본 연구에서는 인터넷신문으로 그 영역을 확장하고, 수용자의 기억을 재인기억과 회상기억으로 각각 분리, 측정하였다.
