The purpose of this research was to analyze the effect of the mobile phone education program for older adults. We carried out a pre-to-post survey with 702 older people and 400 college student volunteers who have participated in the mobile education program for older adults funded from the SK Telecom. In this research, we found as follows: First, after the education the elders showed better understanding on the usage of the mobile phone and became to use more various functions in the mobile phone. Also, they became to think the mobile phone very useful for their daily lives and to utilize text messaging more frequently. Secondly, both of the elders and the college student volunteers showed high satisfaction throughout this education. The elders said to gain self-confidence after the education and volunteers said to want to participate in a similar program again and to encourage their friends to participate in. Third, both of the elders' attitudes towards younger generation and the college student volunteers' attitudes towards older generation have improved after the education. In conclusion, we proved intergenerational effects of the mobile phone education for the older adults.

본 연구의 목적은 한 이동통신회사의 지원으로 전국의 노인복지관에서 진행된 ‘어르신 정보격차 해소를 위한 휴대폰 활용교육’ 프로그램의 효과를 검증하는 것이었다. 이를 위하여 프로그램에 참여했던 노인 702명과 대학생 봉사자 400명을 대상으로 교육 전과 후 두 차례에 걸쳐 설문조사를 실시하였다. 그 주요 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 노인들의 휴대폰 사용방법에 대한 이해정도, 휴대폰 각 기능의 사용정도, 휴대폰이 생활에 도움이 된다고 생각하는 정도, 하루 평균 문자통화 횟수 모두 교육 후에 크게 향상되었다. 둘째, 노인들과 대학생 봉사자 모두 프로그램에 대하여 전반적으로 높은 만족도를 보였다. 노인들은 휴대폰활용교육을 통하여 가장 도움이 된 점을 자신감을 얻은 점으로 꼽았고, 봉사자들은 다시 휴대폰교육에 참여하겠고 주위에도 휴대폰교육 봉사를 권유하겠다고 응답하였다. 셋째, 교육 후 노인들과 봉사자들 모두 상대 세대에 대한 태도가 향상되었다. 이상의 결과를 통하여 휴대폰활용교육 프로그램의 세대통합적 효과가 입증되었다.
