This study investigated the teacher's perception about multicultural education, who are devoted to educate the siblings of foreign workers and immigrants. A total of seven teachers who work in Public kindergarten in Seoul city paticipated in this study. They were required to answer the semi-structured inventories. The inventories were gathered via e-mails. As a result, they reported following several items. The teacher's perception about multicultural education were impossibility, embarassment, ambiguity, and responsibilities. The advantage of multicultural education are the more chance to feel the diversity, to reduce discriminabilities, and to enhance comprehension about multiculturalism. The disadvantage of multicultural education are the conceptual ambiguity, difficulties in developing classes, and difficulties in tining the peer relationships. They asked for the supports of pre-service and in-service training for multicultural education, dispatch of multicultural education specialist, communication among the multicultural families, development of multicultural education materials, and connection with the religious societies.

본 연구는 외국인 노동자 및 이주민 자녀를 가르치고 있는 유치원 교사를 대상으로 다문화 교육에 대한 교사의 생각을 알아보기 위해 진행되었다. 본 연구를 위한 연구대상은 서울시에 위치한 다문화 교육 경험이 있는 초등학교병설유치원 교사 6명이다. 연구 방법은 개방형 설 문지를 통한 반구조화 질문을 하였고, 의문이 나거나 이해가 되지 않는 부분은 인터뷰를 병 행하였다. 본 연구의 결과 다문화 교육 하면 떠오르는 유치원 교사들의 생각으로는 난감함, 당황스러움, 모호함, 부담감 등을 이야기하였고, 다문화 교육을 실시했을 때 좋은 점으로는 유아들이 다양성을 느낄 수 있다는 것, 서로의 차이를 인정하고 존중할 수 있다는 것, 다문화 배경을 가진 가정의 유아에 대한 이해심이 많아진다는 것을 이야기하였다. 다문화 교육을 위 한 지원책으로는 다문화 교육에 대한 직전 교육의 확대, 다문화 교육에 대한 현직 교육의 확 대, 다문화 교육 전문가 양성 및 파견, 교사와 다문화 가정간의 의사소통 지원, 다문화 교육 관련 자료의 개발, 다문화 교육과 관련한 지역사회와의 연계 등을 이야기하였다.
