This study is to predict the directivity of its urban growth from a viewpoint of spatial structure as United Changwon City is newly launched. To make such a prediction, this study carried out spatial analysis by using Space Syntax. Space Syntax is an effective technique in analyzing degree of centralization and decentralization through the morphological analysis. As a result of the Integration analysis to examine the entire urban structure, the change of urban structure was noticeable after the integration, it was expected that Changwondaero, having shown the highest Integration value before the integration, would still play a significant role after the integration. On the other hand, it was found that some streets, which didn't' take an important position at all in the individual cities, would have important positions in the entire spatial structure after the integration. These regions are expected to emerge as new centers of innovation in responding to localized challenges.

본 연구는 통합창원시가 출범함에 따라 공간구조적 관점에서 도시의 성장 방향을 예측하기 위한 연구로써 공간구문론(Space Syntax)을 활용한 공간분석을 수행하였다. 통합이전의 공간구조에 비해 통합이후의 공간구조를 살펴본 결과통합 이전에도 각 개별도시 중에서 가장 높은 접근성 및 중앙성을 보였던 창원대로가 통합 이후에도 여전히 매우 중요한 역할을 담당하게 될 것임을 알 수 있었다. 반면에 소계고가도로나 삼정자IC일대와 같이 이전의 개별 도시에서는 전혀 중요한 위치를 점하지 못했던 도로들이 통합이후 전체적인 공간구조에서는 매우 중요한 위치를 차지하게 될 것이라 예측되었다. 통합 이전에 외곽에 위치했던 이들 가로들이 통합이후 진해와 마산을 연결하는 핵심적인 도로가 되기 때문에 전체적인 접근성이 높아지는 것으로 해석할 수 있다.
