The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning of global citizenship education included in ‘明’ concept of 老子’s 『道德經』. That 明concept is different from knowledge of judgement (分別智), such as these that overall feature, concrete content, method of learn(體得), point of aim etc. Namely, ‘明’ concept of 『道德經』is superior concept to knowledge of judgement. So, at the second chapter, this study attempted analysis about ‘明’ concept. Then, what is that ‘明’ concept of 『道德經』may have meaning at practical dimension? At this study, the meaning is connected with global citizenship education. But, now the global citizenship education is confronted with various problem, and the various problem is no different that cosmopolitanism is confronted with problems. So, at the third chapter, contradiction between theoretical aspect and practical aspect of cosmopolitanism is established as fundamental problem of global citizenship education and cosmopolitanism. And, under the that consideration, this study revealed the meaning of global citizenship education included in ‘明’ concept of 『道德經』, at forth chapter. ‘明’ concept have features such as active ‘character’ that can embrace opposite one or party, ‘content’ as true self-awareness, ‘point of aim’ about universal and internal good(善) or principle etc. Therefore, that concept is connected with global citizenship education, and have meaning at this domain.

본고는 노자의『도덕경』에 나타나는 ‘명(明)’이라는 개념이 세계시민교육에서 지니는 의의를 살펴보 는 것을 목적으로 한다. 저 명 개념은 전체적인 성격이나 구체적인 내용, 체득을 위한 방법, 지향점 등의 면에서 분별지(分別智)와는 다른 가치를 지니고 있다. 즉 『도덕경』에서 제시하는 명은 분별지를 넘어서는 상위의 개념이다. 그래서 제 Ⅱ장에서는 우선 저 명 개념에 대한 분석을 시도하였다. 그렇다면 『도덕경』에 나타나는 명 개념은 실천적인 차원에서 우리에게 어떠한 시사점을 제공하는 가. 본고에서는 그 시사점을 세계시민교육과 관련시켜 살펴보았다. 그런데 세계시민교육은 현재 여러 가지 문제점에 직면하여 있으며, 실상 그 문제점이란 세계시민주의가 직면한 문제점과 다름 아니다. 따라서 제 Ⅲ장에서는 세계시민주의의 이론적 양상과 그것이 드러나는 실제적 양상의 간극에서 발생 하는 모순을 세계시민주의 및 세계시민교육의 근본적 문제로 설정하고 고찰하였다. 그리고 그런 고찰 아래, 제 Ⅳ장에서는 『도덕경』에 나타나는 명 개념이 세계시민교육에서 지닐 수 있는 의의를 살펴보았다. 그래서 이 명 개념이 지니는 상대방을 포용할 수 있는 적극적 ‘성격’과 진정 한 자기 인식으로서의 ‘내용’, 보편적이며 내재적인 선(善) 혹은 원리에 대한 ‘지향점’의 측면이 세계시 민교육에도 여러 가지 시사점을 제공한다는 것을 밝히고자 하였다.
