The purposes of this study were to develop an elective course for the college students in the national teachers' education college in Korea and to test its effectiveness, as a part of the original efforts to develop effective college elective courses in the diverse universities. Based on the prior research on the cultural diversity in families in Korea and needs assessment with the 107 college students in a national teachers' college locating in the mid-east side of Korea, the primary investigators of this study had developed a 16-weeks' families-in-cultural-diversity (FCD) course for the teachers' education college in Korea. Pre and post tests were attempted to measure the participating students' changes during the research period. The students who took the FCD course expressed their general satisfaction on the course. Also they reported that they were satisfied with contents and the applicability of the course, and their levels of the cultural relevancy were improved. As the results of the course, the students expressed that their knowledges and skills related to FCD, their willingness to participate in the voluntary activities for the FCD, and their awareness on the importance of FCD course were improved. The gender differences were not found in their general satisfaction and specified satisfaction items. To test the effect of FCD course, researchers of this study compared the class-taking students with the non-taking students who were recruited from another course at the same college. The gender, age, grade, multicultural experiences, and their pre-test scores on the attitudes on the cultural diversity were not different by the class-taking and non-taking group. However, in the post test, the scores of the attitudes on the cultural diversity among the class-taking students were dramatically improved at the statistically significant levels whereas their counter parts did not. Authors concluded that FCD course was very effective for the college students in the teachers' college to obtain their cultural relevant abilities.

본 연구는 대학의 다문화가족관련 교양과목의 개발을 위한 노력의 일환으로 시도되었고 특히, 교육대학에서의 다문화가족관련 교양과목의 개발 및 효과성의 검증을 그 연구 목적으 로 한다. 한국사회의 다문화가족에 대한 선행연구들의 분석과 중동부 지역에 위치한 국립교 육대학의 107명의 학생들을 대상으로 한 교육요구분석의 결과를 바탕으로 16주간의 다문화 가족의 이해 과목이 개발 되어 시행되었다. 다문화가족의 이해 과목의 수강생들 이들과 인구 통계학적인 특성, 다문화 관련 선행경험, 그리고 기타 개인적 특성들이 비슷한 학생들이 비 교집단으로 선정 되었고, 이 두 집단을 대상으로 사전 사후 검증이 시도되었다. 본 연구의 결과, 다문화가족의 이해 과목을 수강한 학생들의 과목에 대한 일반적인 만족도가 보고되었고, 학생들은 개발된 과목의 내용의 선정과 현장에서의 응용성에 만족하고 있었고, 수강생들의 다문화적 소양 수준이 증가 하였다고 보고하였다. 다문화가족 이해과목의 수강경 험은 수강생들의 다문화 관련 지식과 기술, 다문화가족 관련 봉사활동에 참여하고자 하는 의 지의 수준, 다문화가족 관련 과목의 필요성의 인식, 등의 수준이 증가하였다. 상기의 결과들 에서 성별의 차이는 보이지 않았다. 본 연구에서 개발 된 과목의 효과성을 측정하기 위한 수 강생과 비교집단과의 검증결과에서, 수강생 집단과 비교 집단의 학생들의 성별, 연령, 학년 분포, 다문화관련 경험, 문화적 소양의 사전 점수 간에 통계적으로 유의한 수준의 차이를 보 이지 않았다. 그러나 사후 검사결과에서 문화적 소양의 수준이 수강생 집단에서는 극적으로 증가한 반면에 비교집단에서는 그러한 변화가 일어나지 않았다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 본 연구는 다문화가족의 이해 수업은 교육대학의 학생들이 문화적 소양을 획득하기 위한 효과 적인 방안이고 미래 다문화적 학교현장에서 교육을 수행할 예비교사들에게 필수적인 교육과 정이라고 제안하였다.
