Directors, Dardenne brothers, expressed and pointed out a theme that loss of humanity and dismantlement of family, which are the problems stemmed from development of the society, cause serious human isolation and it is in a vicious circle and made viewers to feel that the characters in movies are themselves as they escape from pain and sense of guilt through the characters. The viewers who felt such emotions try to escape from ills in the modern society. Directors, Dardenne brothers, deliver social message to viewers through characters in their movies and show the small hope that they want the devastated society to be disappeared. The author thinks that Dardenne brothers’ movies focusing on individuals seem to show an individual’s painful life, but they try to demonstrate the whole society through the movies. The fact that their movies deal with people’s life in the society that they live under the influence of social environments prove that their movies are recognized internationally and the directors are great.
