The effects of the emotional self-disclosure and communication styles on intimacy in the romantic relationships of college students.

The current study examined the effects of emotional self-disclosure(positive and negative emotion in daily life, positive and negative emotion to partner) and communication styles(blaming, distracting, and congruent communication styles) on intimacy in the romantic relationships of college students. The results indicated that the self-disclosure of positive-emotion in daily life and positive emotion to partner positively predicted the degree of intimacy, whereas the self-disclosure of negative emotion to partner and distracting communication style negatively predicted the degree of intimacy. Moreover, the interaction effect of negative-emotional self-disclosure in daily life and congruent communication style on intimacy was significant. It suggests the practical information for facilitating intimacy in college students' romantic relationships.
