The total number of North Korean Migrants passed 20 thousand at the end of 2010. The government of South Korea has conducted a variety of support policy for North Korean Migrants to support financially themselves and enter the labor market in South Korea. Since North Korean Migrants have been situated in high turnover rate and unstable employment, however, it is necessary to modify and supplement the vocational education for their stable professional life. The study, therefore, analyze which educational needs North Korean Migrants have, particularly in social, cultural, and psychological aspect, based on the analysis of their experiences at workplace and community in South Korea. The results were as follows. The psychological-cultural trauma of North Korean Migrants and the discord with co-workers as well as the lack of skill caused their unstable employment in South Korea. It was necessary for the vocational education for North Korean Migrants to be supplemented toward the recovery of self-respect and the improvement of psychological-cultural communication ability with the others in workplace and community in order to maintain their stable professional life. Finally, the study suggested to introduce the humanities education, which might be able to contribute to North Korean Migrants' sustaining participation in workplace as the subject of public and professional life, in the vocational education for them.

남한사회에 거주하고 있는 북한이탈주민의 수가 2010년에 2만 명을 넘어섰다. 그 동안 정부에서는 북한이탈주민의 자립을 돕고 노동시장으로의 진입을 촉진하기 위해 다양한 취업 지원 정책, 특히 직업교육을 실시해 왔다. 그러나 여전히 많은 북한이탈주민이 높은 이직률과 불안정한 고용 상태에 놓여 있어, 그들의 안정적 직업생활을 위한 직업교육의 보완이 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 북한이탈주민의 남한 정착과정과 직장에서의 경험과, 기존의 직업교육을 바탕으로 그들에게 어떤 교육요구가 있는지, 특히 사회문화적․심리적 측면에서 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 북한이탈주민은 직장생활에서 기능적인 문제뿐만 아니라, 심리적․문화적 트라우마 및 타인과의 갈등 문제를 해결하지 못함으로써 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 북한이탈주민의 안정적인 직장생활을 위해서 자기 존중감을 회복하고 직장이나 지역사회에서 함께 살아가는 타인과의 심리적․문화적 소통 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 교육이 보완될 필요가 있었다. 결국 본 연구에서는 북한이탈주민을 위한 직업교육에 사회에서의 공적 삶과 직업생활의 주체로 참여하고 이를 지속하는 데 기여할 수 있는 인문학 교육적 접근을 시도할 것을 제안하였다.
