It is a real situation that Korean, Christian Churches are unconcerned and careless about chid welfare work, and therefore, in order to revive their child welfare work, they should develop the powers latent or potential energy within them. At present, it is a real condition that child welfare services provided by the government and nongovernment institutions lack and are not satisfactorily sufficient. Even though churches have concern with child welfare work and in its practice, still they have some problematic points such as limiting their activity only to extend their sense of value of child welfare work, to collect contributions, and to render services to child welfare work. The purpose of this study is to find out ways to develop the church's potential energy to improve and better its child welfare services so that children feel satisfactory and find the worthiness of living and they quality of living be improved. so, in order to approach to the purpose, the ground of child welfare was reviewed in the Bible along with the essence of churches where child welfare is proclaimed as their important task and the mission of child welfare in the history of missionary work, based on welfare theology, with reference to some documents. Christian Church ha its long history of child welfare work and has continuously practised its activities and services throughout its history. So this study intended to provide some basic data necessary to grope for some better methods of child welfare work, based on the reference to some documents and inspective studies on the church's child welfare work highly risen as an important task in communities so that churches as missionary communities practising their gospel preaching can carry out child welfare work more efficiently. Through studies on some documents, both the biblical context and theological ground of child welfare were closely reviewed along with child welfare as a plan to practice it in terms of pastorship, the church's historical context of child welfare work, and the child welfare work of modern, Korean Christian Church. And in order to grasp the realities of the church's child welfare work, some questionnaires were used to inspect 106 churches by post. Findings are as follows: 1) It appeared there is scarcely any special manpower for child welfare work in churches; and it is a reality that provision of the usual services of child welfare is only dragged by the need of those churches in the community as a way to protect children. 2) It appeared that more than half of churches do not perform child welfare work; the most difficult part in carrying out child welfare work is financing; and since many small churches are located in farming and fishing villages with absence of children, operation of the facilities for child welfare is difficult. However, there are many responses that if better conditions are given, church should carry out its child welfare work regardless of the government and nongovernment child welfare institutions in a dimension of social services. It was also found out that the purpose of child welfare work should be based on a dimension of the church's mission in therms of its history and essence, rather than a dimension of its missionary work and helping poor neighbors. Additionally as a suggestion, in order to go with the change of a new age of 2000s and Jesus Christ's intention to give children welfare, churches should actively activate its child welfare work, not entrusintg special manpower and utilizing its potential energy, should show the love of Jesus Chris toward children, fully opening the door of church, with an attitude such as hugging children, playing with them, serving them; and all the space of chapel and its facilities should be improved for child welfare.

한국기독교교회는 아동선교복지사업에 대하여 제외되고 무관심과 잠식되어가고 있는 실정이어서 아동선교복지사업을 실천하는데는 교회의 잠재력을 개발하여야 한다. 현재정부와 공공기관에서 제공하는 아동복지서비스가 만족스럽지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 교회는 사회복지에 대한 관심과 실천이 증대되고 있으면서 아동복지에 관한 사업은 가치관과 모금과 봉사에 그치도 마는 실정의 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구는 아동들이 보람과 만족을 느끼며 생활의 질을 높일 수 있도록 잠재능력을 가지고 있는 한국기독교 교회의 아동선교복지사업 접근 방법을 위하여 성서에서 아동복지 근거를 고찰하고 말씀이 선포되는 교회의 본질이 무엇인지 성서적 근거와 복지신학의 기초를 선교 역사적 사명을 문헌을 통하여 고찰하였다. 본 연구는 지역사회에 우뚝 솟아있는 교회의 아동선교복지 사업의 문헌연구와 조사 연구로 나누어 기독교의 복음 실천의 선교공동체로서 교회의 아동복지 사업이 더욱 효율적으로 실천할 수 있도록 아동복지 사업의 방법을 모색하는 기초적인 역사의 자료를 제공 하고자 하였다. 문헌연구를 통해서 아동복지의 성서적 배경, 신학적 기초와, 목회와 아동복지 목회실천 방안으로서 아동복지, 아동복지사업의 교회의 역사적 배경과 현대 한국교회 아동복지사업을 살펴본 후 기독교교회의 사회복지선행연구를 고찰하였으며 교회내의 현 한국기독교 교회의 사회복지사업 현황과 인식정도를 KNCC 가입교단을 통하여 살펴본 결과 선교적 책임을 느끼며 아동복지사업 쪽에도 큰 비중을 두고 있으나 아직도 개 교회 중심으로 맡겨버린 교단도 있다. 조사연구에서는 교회 아동복지사업의 실태를 파악하기 위하여 설문지를 도구로 하여 조사하였다. 아동선교복지의 전문 인력이 거의 없고 아동복지의 일반적인 서비스 제공은 지역사회 교회내의 욕구에 그저 끌려가는 예방책으로 대처하는 현실이었다. 아동복지사업의 목적은 선교사업과 불쌍한 이웃을 돕는 차원보다는 교회의 역사 내지 본질적 사명이니까 해야함을 보여주었다. 그러나 아동복지사업을 실시하지 않는 이유 중 하나가 재정부족과 교회인식 부족, 전문 인력 부족으로 나타나 있지만 기회만 있으면 꼭 실천할 것으로 나타났고, 재정이나 인적자원을 아동복지시설의 자원봉사로 유도하고 법인을 설립하여 교회내의 대상별(어린이집, 유치원, 탁아소, 청소년상담, 모자원, 쉼터, 공부방)로 프로그램을 실시하겠다는 의견이 많음을 볼 때 아동복지사업의 전망이 밝아온다. 새 천년의 시대의 변화와 예수그리스도의 아동복지 의도를 정부나 민간시설에 맡기지 말고 교회가 능동적으로 교회 내 아동복지사업을 활성화하려면 전문인 양성과 잠재력을 활용하여 평일에 닫아놓았던 교회의 문을 활짝 열어 예수그리스도의 살아있는 모습으로 방황하고 유리하는 아동들을 끌어안고 함께 놀아주고 섬겨주는 태도로 예배실개방과 시설의 모든 공간을 아동복지사업을 위하여 개선되어야 한다.
