This study reviewed the major previous researches analyzing the efficiency of public libraries, measured the operational efficiency of national university libraries, and analyzed factors affecting the efficiency. The empirical results of this study show that the mean and standard deviation of the twenty eight national universities in Korea are 78.65% and 29.80%, respectively and the efficiency of libraries varies very largely from the minimum of 15.41% to the maximum of 100%. And university budget, undergraduate students, graduate students, the number of faculty, the number of university staffs, and the number of librarians don't all have influences on the efficiency of national university libraries.

본 연구에서는 공공도서관의 효율성을 분석한 주요 선행연구들을 검토한 후 비방사적 자료포락분석모형을 사용하여 국립대학교 도서관의 운영효율성을 측정하고 효율성에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 분석결과에 의하면 28개 국립대학교 도서관들의 효율성의 평균이 78.65%이고 표준편차는 29.80%이며, 도서관들의 효율성이 최소치인 15.41%에서 최대치인 100%까지 매우 큰 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 국립대학교의 대학예산과 학부학생수, 대학원생수, 교수수, 대학직원수, 사서직원수가 유의수준 5%에서 모두 국립대학교 도서관의 효율성에 유의미한 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
