Marginality as the Characteristic of the Late Rev. Min Youngwan’s Spirituality and His Ministry Led by the Word
초록
영어
The aim of this study is to investigate and to evaluate the late Rev. Min Youngwan’s life and ministry from a practical theological perspective, and to apply the findings to contemporary ministerial settings. Having participated in the Non-shrine Worship Movement against Japanese militarists, Rev. Min worked for 45 years as a pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Korea(PCKK, Kosin). With a view toe valuating Rev. Min’s spirituality and ministry, this study discusses a prac` tical hermeneutical perspective of marginality, discussing two elements constituting pastoral ministry in the introduction, i.e. the contextual element and the theological element. His spirituality of marginality is revealed in selfdenial and allegiance to the Lord, resistance to the coercive Shinto shrine worship by Japanese militarists, participation in the truth movement of a minority group with pure faith and holy conscience, self-sacrifice and the pursuit of Gods glory. His spirituality accompanies not only the vertical, personal dimension but also the horizontal, communal dimension, that is to say, a future-oriented, adventurous aspect, union with others and concern for the weak. Rev. Min’s view of ministry can be viewed as a ministry led by the praxis of the Word(God), the subject of ministry. Rev. Min’s spirituality of marginality and his ministry led by the Word are significant praxis model suggesting the theological paradigm regarding the essence of ministry in the contemporary ministerial settings in which ministry directs towards the centrality of worldly powers.
