The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a 12 weeks trial on the exercise and nutrition education for insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome indices in the type 2 diabetes mellitus. The subjects of this study were 36 individuals with type 2 diabetes. The 36 individuals were divided into two groups either a education and a control group. In measurement index, insulin resistance analysis were measured of insulin, HOMA-IR, and OGTT glucose dimension. Metabolic syndrome indices were measured of waist circumference, HDL-C, TG, SBP, DBP, and glucose. Results of this study were as follows; In the insulin resistance, the insulin did not show a significant difference between the education before and after. However, HOMA-IR and OGTT showed a significant difference between the education before and after. In the metabolic syndrome indices, waist circumference showed significant difference between the education before and after. HDL-C and SBP showed significant difference between the education before and after. TG and DBP did not show a significant difference between the education before and after. Resting glucose showed significant difference between the education before and after. These data suggest that type 2 diabetes mellitus are most effective on the diet and exercise education of above 12 weeks. Thus, in reduce glucose of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, clinically significant decrease in glucose can be achieved with relatively modest increase in diet and physical activity above sedentary level.
