The purpose of this paper is to arouse the importance of research through digital contents on overseas Korean communities. The first thing to do for this is to embody the communities' historical and cultural resources into the digital cultural map. Particularly, the resources of ethnic Korean communities in CIS and China can be used effectively in developing new Korean Wave contents because they are based on the Korean people's traditional living culture. The next thing for us to do is to establish digital-based archives of Koreans abroad. We should set up archives to grasp the communities' changes of the past and the present contextually, and carry out the project of oral history statement for overseas Koreans like the oral statement project for Korean modern history which is now being performed by Institute for Modern Korea, the Academy of Korean Studies. It is because there is not enough time for senior Koreans, witnesses of Korean modern history.

디지털콘텐츠를 활용한 재외한인사회 연구의 중요성을 제기하려는 것이 이 글의 목적이다. 이를 위해 먼저 재외한인사회의 역사문화자원을 전자문화지도로 구현하자는 것이다. 특히, 독립국가연합 고려인과 중국 조선족 사회의 문화자원은 한민족의 전통생활문화에 기초한 것으로, 신한류 콘텐츠 개발에 효과적으로 활용할 수 있다. 다음으로 해야 할 일은 디지털 기반 재외한인기록관의 설립이다. 재외한인사회의 과거와 현재의 변화를 맥락적으로 포착해 낼 수 있는 재외한인기록관을 설립하여, 현재 한국학중앙연구원 현대한국연구소가 수행 중인 현대한국구술사 프로젝트와 유사한 재외한인구술사 사업을 수행하는 일이 시급히 필요하다. 한국 현대사의 증언자들인 원로한인들의 삶이 얼마 남지 않았기 때문이다.
