A Semiotic Analysis of the Korean to Japanese Translation of International Articles in Online Newspapers
초록
영어
With the advent of the information age and the World Wide Web, it has become possible to obtain information on any region of the world wherever and whenever one pleases. The major newspapers of Korea have accordingly launched online services as early as 1995 and through them are providing domestic and international news both online and off line. In the process of their dissemination, the Target Text (TT) of translated Korean domestic news will be perceived by TT culture receivers as international news. On the other hand, should the translated TT of international news pertain to diplomatic conflicts or current political issues of the TT culture is published, it would become domestic news to the TT culture receivers. Then, the purpose of this study is to examine whether the translation of Korean online international articles are Source Text (ST) oriented or TT oriented in cases where prespectives on the world and attitudes toward the reality differ between ST and TT countries, and to provide a semiotic description of the results. Specifically, the analysis is focused on the Korean-into-Japanese translation of online international articles released in September 2010 reporting the Chinese-Japanese conflict surrounding the Senkaku Isles.
