This study examines the life and thought of Yongam Yi-Hwijae(1893~1944), one of the inheritors of the Ganjae's thought.
He was sincere and devoted to his parents since he was a child. He studied under Ganjae Jeon-Woo from his youth and after Ganjae's death, inherited his thought with Seoknong Oh-Jinyoung.
He thought that studying means to practice 'Jing(敬)' not to astray from the natural rules of everything and promoted 'Xing(性)' as the criteria for every judgment. Hence he preserved the theory of 'Sungjonsimbi(性尊心卑;respect the original nature and disregard Mind)' inherited from Ganjae and criticized the theory of 'Simjukli(心卽
理;Mind, that is to say reason).
Regarding 'Li(禮)', he concerned about making practice not to lose touch with reality while being proper to the righteousness by constantly contemplating on the words of the Confucius canons. He tried to revive the respect for integrity under the life of Japanese colonization.
Like this, He lived the life that kept the Confucius spirit of moral philosophy by inheriting the Ganjae's 'Sungjonsimbi' in the time when the nation was lost and the Confucius tradition was destroyed by the colonial invasion.

본 연구는 간재학파의 한 사람인 용암 이휘재(龍巖李徽在, 1893~1944)의 생애와 사상을 고찰한 것이다.
용암은 어려서부터 행동이 독실하였고 효성이 깊었다. 일찍이 간재 전우의 문하에서 학문을 했으며, 간재 사후에는 석농 오진영을 종유(從遊)하여 간재사상을 계승하였다.
용암은, 학문이란 평상시의 행위가 사물당연(事物當然)의 법칙에서 벗어나지 않도록 ‘경(敬)’을 실천하는 것이며, 성(性)이 모든 가치판단의 기준이 되어야 한다고 생각하였다. 이에 간재로부터 전수받은 ‘성존심비(性尊心卑)’설을 지키고 ‘심즉리(心卽理)’설을 비판하였다.
예설(禮說)에 대해서는 선현의 설을 맹종하기보다는, 항상 경전(經傳)을 상고(詳考)하여 의리에 합당하면서 또한 현실과 괴리되지 않게 실천하는 문제에 관심을 기울였다. 또 임진왜란 당시의 중봉(重峯)과 제봉(霽峰)의 절의정신에 대하여 재평가함으로써, 일제 강점기의 현실에서 절의정신(節義精神)을 되새기고자 했다.
이와 같이 용암은 외세의 침략에 의해 국권이 상실되고 유교적 전통이 붕괴되는 시기에 살면서, ‘성존심비’의 간재학을 계승하여 유학의 도학정신(道學精神)을 지키는 삶을 살았다.
