The purpose of this study is to discuss the functional uses of music as atmospheric element which has a significant influence on the human behavior in a certain space. Music, besides various architectural element inside or outside a commercial place and design element such as layout, influences the recipients' behavior in the space. Thus, we focus on the musical functions which has effects on environmental psychology. We will discuss how musical tempo and loudness affect the customers' purchase behavior from the previous research, which also reveals certain degree of limitation. We will also cover how musical characteristics cause the difference between the actual time and the perceived time.

본 논문은 특정 공간 내에 개인의 행동에 대해 영향을 미치는 atmospheric 요소로서의 음악의 기능을 살펴본다. 상업 공간 내, 외부의 다양한 건축적 요소, 레이아웃을 포함한 디자인적 요소와 더불어 음악 또한 공간 내의 자극 수용자의 행동에 영향을 미치게 된다. 음악의 여러 기능 중, 인간의 환경심리에 영향을 미치는 자극으로서의 기능에 대해 주목하게 된다. 여기서는 음악의 템포, 음량 등이 고객의 구매 행동에 어떤 영향을 미치게 되는지를 선행연구를 통해 고찰하고 그 한계점에 대해서 논해보도록 한다. 또한 음악의 특성이 실제 시간과 체감되는 시간 간의 차이에 어떤 영향을 미치게 되는지, 또 그 시사점에 대해서도 논해보도록 한다.
