With increasing interests in cultural content, regional cultural industry has been also growing together. This paper presents development of a group dance for elementary school students based on the Korean traditional circle dance - Ganggangsullae. This paper describes some issues for developing successful re-creation of a modernized group dance from a traditional one. It describes the applied processes for development and evaluation also. Evaluation of users responses using a questionnaire indicates that the final group dance developed according to the applied process satisfies the target children successfully in respect to their likelihood of paying interest, and exercising themselves. We expect that the developed group dance can be utilized as one of daily sports for children. It will contribute also to help people understand the Ganggangsullae better.

오늘날 문화 콘텐츠에 대한 관심이 급증하면서, 이를 활용한 지역별 문화콘텐츠 산업도 함께 성장하고 있다. 본 논 문에서는 우리나라 전통군무인 강강술래를 기반으로 초등학생을 대상으로 한 생활체육에 활용될 수 있는 군무의 개 발에 대해 기술한다. 지역 문화를 기반으로 한 성공적인 군무 개발을 위해 요구되는 개발 방향 설정과 주요 고려사 항들을 도출하고, 이를 실현시키기 위해 적용한 개발 과정에 대해 기술한다. 개발된 군무를 대상으로 설문 평가를 실시하였으며, 전통적인 강강술래에 기반한 전통 문화의 특성을 반영하면서 현대적인 감각으로 재창조되어 개발된 새로운 군무가 목표 대상 청소년들의 흥미유발과 운동효과 측면에서 매우 긍정적임을 알 수 있었다. 개발된 군무는 초등학생을 대상으로 한 생활체육으로 활용될 수 있으며, 한국 전통놀이인 강강술래를 이해하고 대중화하는데 기여 할 것으로 판단된다
