The current devastating divisions of the Korea churches have not been caused by any profound differences in or errors of their dogmas or theological issues but have rooted more in disastrous historical catastrophe such as Japanese colonialism and consequent korean war. However the churches in Korea today are pressed to move their way into unity so that even churches among different traditions should mutually make efforts to accomplish harmonious and common unity by overwhelming whatever dogmatic and practical barriers. For this purpose, the churches, first, need to pursue more creative theological approaches corresponding the new paradigm in this new era. For example, they may be doing practical theology which aggresively reflects the vital experiencing data of the fields, doing inductive theology which finds dogmatic details from the context while not loosing Christian identity, and doing on-the-move theology which constantly converse with changing context. Of course, they all too need to be accompanied with the core theme, Jesus Christ found both in the Scriptures and in the apostolic tradition. From practical perspective, the Korean churches, for future ecumenicalism, need more to strengthen their mutual cooperative activities in issues such as theological education, diakonia, and in showing mutual forgiveness of past errors among them.

한국교회의 분열은 매우 심각할 정도인데 이들 분열의 대체적인 원인은 근본적인 교리의 오류나 차이에서 비롯되었기 보다는 대체로 굴곡에 찬 민족사적 배경에 연유한 경우가 대부분이다. 그러나 이런 분열 현황이 더 이상 좌시되어서는 안 되며 최소한 같은 교파 간의 연합은 물론 모든 교파, 교단, 개교회가 전혀 벽이 없는 교류와 조화를 이룰 수 있어야 할 것이다. 이를 위해서 실천신학적 관점에서 새로운 시대적 패러다임에 따른 실천신학 방법론의 제시가 필요하다. 예를 들어 이론신학의 응용이 아닌 경험 현장의 신학으로 나아가야 할 것, 기독교적 정체성을 품고 귀납법적으로 신학하기, 및 변화하는 정황과 대화하는 동태적 신학의 정립 등을 들 수 있다. 물론 여기에는 성경과 사도전승의 초점인 예수 그리스도라는 전거에 충실해야 한다는 전제가 함께 요청된다. 실제적인 관점에서는 교회 간의 연합 활동 및 공동 사업 강화, 교단 및 신학교육기관의 개방적 정책, 기독교 사회봉사 신학의 활성화 및 한국교회 과거사에 대한 관용의 자세 등이 요청될 수 있을 것이다. 교회연합의 목표는 획일성이나, 중앙 집중적, 통제적 교회 건설이 아니다. 다만 서로 언어와 문화와 세부적인 차이들을 관용하되 그 가운데서도 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 본질적 동질성을 유지하는 집합적 개체 교회들의 하나 됨의 경험이어야 한다. 한국교회는 앞으로 주어진 막중한 사명의 성공적 완수를 위해 지체된 모든 다른 교회들과 예수 그리스도를 머리로 하여 더욱 연합을 이끌어 내기 위해 양보와 희생, 그리고 서로에 대한 수용의 정신을 더욱 발전시켜 나가야 할 것이다.
