Volunteering is deeply embedded in Korea collectivist culture. It has historical origins in mutual aid systems, specifically the concept of “dure” in rural areas, when townsfolk would pool together their labour to aid distressed individuals and families. Volunteering take all form. Volunteering may be preconditioned with tradition, culture, education, and with other things. Volunteers’ activities may seem similar but the conditions in which volunteers work may be very different. In this paper we investigate current situation of volunteer activity and research on actual state of youth volunteering.

청소년 비행문제가 사회적인 쟁점으로 부각될 때마다 인성교육의 필요성이 제기되곤 한다. 중학교교사 10명 가운데 5명은 요즘 학생들에게 인성교육이 가장 필요하다는 생각을 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 1995년 5.31 교육개혁 이후 의무화된 중․고등학교 봉사활동은 초․중․고교에서 실천위주의 인성교육을 강조하고 있다. 당시 교육개혁위원회가 내놓은 초․중․고교의 학사 운영 개혁방안이나 교육과정 개편 그리고 대학입시제도개선 등도 인성교육 강화와 직․간접적으로 관련되어 있다. 이 논문은 그동안 시행되어 온 봉사활동 의무화에 대한 청소년들의 봉사활동 참여 실태와 인식도를 조사․분석하고 이를 토대로 청소년 봉사활동 활성화 방안을 연구 제시하였다.
