The concept of gender role was regarded as two extremes in the past because masculinity and femininity were traditional1y considered as independent categories. This was a result of gender-biased education that distinctly classifies gender roles of men and women. In the 21st century, however, men express their own sensitivity and personality and even freely show their latent femininity. 깐lis is leading to people breaking away from stereotypes. In fashion, moreover, the boundaries between men’s and women’s clothing is gradually fading away. The freedom of gender expression makes masculinity and femininity in fashion meaningless. This concept has created a new fashion trend called “ cross-sexual-style" that goes beyond limitations of gender and expresses femininity in men’s clothes. It is considered cross-sexual when men are prettier than women, take care of the way they look, and express their personal style. This leads to creative distortion. A cross-sexual trend can even be spotted on the runways these days, with some fashion shows emphasizing femininity in men’s wear. This study attempts to cover cross sexual styles presented in modern men’s wear collections. The range of research tries to analyze the characteristics of the designs and cross-sexual style elements in men's clothing collections since 2009. The results show that materials that were not used in men’s collections in the past are used to express masculinity and elegance since 2009. In the past, brilliant colors were largely used to express men’s sophistication and the differences between men and women, but these distinctions are disappearing and the two genders are now found to be crossing each other.

과거 전통사회에서의 성 역할에 대한 개념은 남성성과 여성성을 단일 차원으로 생각하고 양극의 개념으로 이해되었다. 이와 같은 전통적인 성 고정관념은 남성과 여성의 성 역할을 명확하게 구분 짓는 성차별 교육을 받음으로써 생겨난 현상으로 볼 수가 있다. 그러나 21세기를 살아가는 현대의 남성들은 자신만의 자유로운 감성과 개성을 표현하고， 내면에 존재하고 있는 ‘여성성’을 자유롭게 표현하며 지금까지 전통적으로 요구되어진 성 역할에 대한 고정관념의 틀을 벗어나고 있다. 패션에서도 남성의류와 여성의류의 구분은 있으나 점점 남성의류의 경계가 없어지는 새로운 패션이 자리 잡아 가고 있다. 성 표현의 자유로움은 자기표현의 수단이 되는 패션에서 ‘남성스러운’ 혹은 ‘여성스러운’이라는 틀을 무의미하게 만들었다. 이러한 개념은 성별의 한계를 극복한 완전한 성의 표현과 남성 안에 내재된 여성성의 표현으로써 크로스 섹슈얼 스타일이라는 새로운 패션 트렌드를 탄생시켰다. 크로스 섹슈얼 (cross sexual)은 남자이면서 여자보다 예쁜 남자， 자신을 가꾸는데 좀 더 신경을 쓰고， 투자를 하면서 여성 못지않게 자신의 스타일을 표출하며 창조적인 왜곡을 유도한다. 그 중에서 패션은 매년 시즌마다 남성복에서 여성성을 강조하는 의상들을 컬렉션을 통해 선보이면서 크로스 섹슈얼 스타일이 반영된 트렌드를 발표하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 남성복의 여성화 경향에 대한 관심이 급증하고， 대중화되는 시점에서 현대 남성복 컬렉션에 나타난 크로스 섹슈얼 스타일을 연구하고자 한다. 연구의 범위는 2009년 이후 현재까지 남성복 컬렉션에 나타난 의상의 분석을 통하여 이들의 크로스 섹슈얼 스타일과 그 디자인 특성을 분석하고자 한다. 결과적으로 2009년 이후 남성
복 컬렉션에서는 그동안 남성복에서 잘 나타나지 않았던 포털 아이템들과 강한 남성에 우아함과 섹시함을 보여주는 소재， 예전에는 전체적으로 사용했던 화려한 색상들이 포인트 색상으로 남성의 세련됨을 표현하는 것이 제일 큰 특징으로 나타났으며， 남성과 여성의 성차이가 없이 각자의 성을 교차하는 패션을 보이고 있다.
