In the study, a few models are applied to interpret the East-Asian historical aspects and systems. The sea and the land have an organic relationship and operate in a unified manner. The river is a mediator that connects the sea and the land. Ecologically and historically, there were many rivers in Manchuria and the Korean peninsula that were of great importance. It was one of the essential conditions in which a city was established. it is desirable that nations are conditioned with the oceanic characteristics in geo-political, geo-economical, and geo-cultural ways. Especially, it increases effectiveness when the capital city is built in 'The city of river and sea(江海都市)' where the mouth of the river and the sea intersects. In our history, most of the capital cities and big cities were closely related to the mouth of the river and the sea, for example, Ansi-city(안시성), Pyungyang-city(평양성), Sabi-city(사비성), and Naju-city(羅州). Seoul is the representative example of 'The city of river and sea(江海都市).

필자는 동아시아 역사상과 체계를 해석하는 몇 개의 모델을 설정하여 활용하고 있다. 동아지중해 모델 속에서 자연환경뿐 만 아니라 역사적인 존재로서 바다 및 육지는 유기적인 관계를 맺고 있으며, 통일적으로 작동하고 있다. 그런데 육지와 바다를 이어주는 제 3의 존재가 江이다. 하나의 역사터인 만주와 한반도는 해양과 관련하여 지리적, 지형적 생태적 역사적인 특성상 강이 많을 뿐 만 아니라 역할 면에서도 비중이 높았다. 특히 도시가 생성되는데 절대적인 조건이 되었다. 이러한 환경 속에서 한민족의 국가들은 地政學的 地經學的 地文化的 측면에서 海陸的인 성격을 띄우는 것이 바람직하다. 특히 국가발전전략을 수립하고자 할 때 수도의 위치와 역할은 강 하구와 바다가 만나는 접점인 ‘江海都市’에 설치하는 것이 유효성이 높다. 실제적으로 한민족의 역사에서 대부분의 수도 및 중요도시들은 강하구 및 해양과 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있었다. 왕검성을 비롯하여 安市城(海城) 平壤城(平壤) 泗泌城(夫餘) 羅州 등은 물론이고, 특히 漢城으로 역사에 등장한 서울지역은 한강 하구에 성립한 전형적인 강해도시에 해당한다. 세계사에서 비중높은 위상에 있는 대도시들 가운데에도 강해도시들이 수없이 많다. 본고의 작업은 자연환경을 위주로 하면서 큰 틀을 구축하는 작업이므로 구체적인 역사상의 검토는 소략하였다.
