The purpose of this study is to verify the relationship between types of participation, cultural
characteristics and continued participation behavior of a member in water leisure sports. In order to accomplish the purpose of study, 387 subjects were selected using the stratified cluster random sampling method from male and female member of water leisure sport over 20 years old in the Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Gyeongsang Do and Jeonlado areas. The survey questionnaires were used to collect data. The questionnaires for cultural characteristics that were used in this study were developed by Guisinge and Blatt(1994) and adapted by Kim and Han (1998). The continuous participation behavior scale was adapted from Lee(2006) and Kim (2007). Cronbach’s α values in these scales were from .74 to .89. Using the SPSS/PC＋12.0 version program, statistical methods utilized for testing the hypotheses were descriptive
statistical analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the extent that club members participate in water leisure sport had influence on the cultural characteristics and continuous participation behavior. Secondly, which sport of water leisure sport that they participate had influence on the cultural characteristics and continuous participation behavior. Lastly, the cultural characteristics affect partially on continuous participation behavior.
