This study is designed to enhance the all-inclusive effect of bowling by making a study of the hypothetical proposition that taking part in bowling has a positive influence on the mental health of highschool girl students. The subjects are divided into bowling players and ordinary students, that is, the group involved in bowling and the counterpart group. In terms of the characteristics of the groups, the former consists of 29 bowling players and the latter is made up of the ordinary students who don’t get involved in bowling. With the help of SCL-90-R, a simplified test paper designed to diagnose the mental condition of the subjects, I made an analysis of differences of 9 subordinate variables such as physical symptoms, compulsive neurosis, anthropophobia, depression, hostility, fear anxiety, symptoms of unease, paranoia, and psychoneurosis, shedding light on the influences of bowling on highschool girls.
The study shows that the former turns out to be lower than the latter in terms of 9 subordinate variables. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that bowling has an influence on the mental health of high-school girls in some measure. And I should like to suggest that successive researches should be followed so that in spite of social pressure including the current educational atmosphere focusing on college entrance only, students may not feel any stress, live a positive life and take a positive view on life through bowling.
