For experiment, this study adopted total 10 high school students who had obese physique due to lack of exercise and complained of lumbago even in teen age. They were all asked to participate in a 12-week abdominal crunch program using a sit-up exercise equipment called 「Kim’s S․B」. During this 12-week exercise program, our students were asked to take a regular slow crunch in the Suri Cultural Center for 10 minutes (1-minute slow crunch in every 1 minute of rest) at 3 times every day. In order to determine possible effects of regular exercise upon physical changes and quality of life, all experimental data obtained from students were processed using SPSS 10.0 for Windows to calculate itemized mean and standard deviation. And this study used repeated measures ANOVA to analyze potential significant differences in physical changes and quality of life depending on each variable at statistical significance α = .05. As a result, this study could come to the following conclusions:
First, it was found that our students showed significantly shorter girth (-2.61cm) after completing abdominal crunch than before.
Secondly, it was found that our students showed significantly higher physical flexibility(+1.27cm) after abdominal crunch than before.
Thirdly, it was found that our students felt significantly much relieved from pain of lumbago(-3.19) after abdominal crunch than before.
Fourth, it was found that our students felt significantly better quality of life(+1.97) after completing abdominal crunch than before.
Fifthly, it was found that our students had significantly higher satisfaction at their daily life(+1.47) after abdominal crunch than before.
Hence, it is concluded that the application of regular abdominal crunch or sit-up exercise using 「Kim’s S․B」 to obese teenagers suffering from lumbago involves a variety of positive physical changes in parallel with lower obesity and pain of lumbago, so that our teenagers may feel better positive quality of life and satisfaction at their daily life.
