One of school missions is teaching students to foster their aptitude, ability, creativity and adaptability, to lead a life worthy of man, and to be community-minded Students. But school curriculum geared toward college admission only and excessive emphasis of learning result in deteriorating the community-minded of academic high school students.
The purpose of this study was to provide A Jump Rope program for high school girls to have a sound mind and be community-minded.
The subjects in this study were 36 sophomores in S academic high school located in the city of Gunpo. A warming-up program was conducted for 10 weeks, twice a week, 10 minutes each, before physical-education lessons to have them Jump Rope in group.
The instrument used in the study was Jo Yun-gyeong(2005)'s We-Feeling Scale that was modified to serve the purpose of the study.
For data handling, SPSS/PC+ program was utilized. After pretest and posttest were implemented to evaluate the community-minded of the experimental group, statistical data on mean and standard deviation were secured, and t-test was employed to see if there were any significant results.
The findings of the study were as follows:
First, in relation to community-minded, the students investigated got a mean of 2.46 and 4.31 in pretest and posttest respectively. Their scores got better by 1.85.
Second, as for changes between pretest and posttest collective average in the subfactors of community-minded, they made the best progress in a sense of unity(2.08), followed by relationship-orientation(1.99), considerate- ness(1.96), skepticism about 'we'(1.70) and intimacy(1.49).
Therefore it could be said that the Jump Rope program contributed to fostering the community-mindedness of the students by stirring up their cooperative spirits and sense of unity.
