본 연구는 인구사회학적 특성, 개인배경 특성, 기관특성 변인을 중심으로 청소년지도자의 옹호활동 수행에 영향을 미치는 변인을 알아보고자 실시된 연구이다. 이에 전국의 청소년관련 기관, 단체에서 근무하는 청소년지도자 159명을 설문조사하여 청소년지도자의 옹호수행활동 정도 및 독립변인에 따른 청소년지도자의 옹호활동 수행 정도, 청소년지도자의 옹호활동에 영향을 미치는 요인 및 예측모형을 분석해보았다. 청소년지도자의 옹호활동 수행 정도는 보통 이상이었으며 성별, 학력, 담당업무, 수퍼비전 상태에 따라 옹호활동 수행 정도에 차이가 있음이 밝혀졌다.
또한 기관의 의사결정에 관한 권한이나 수퍼비전의 정도, 담당업무가 청소년지도자의 옹호활동을 예측하는데 매우 중요한 변인임을 확인해볼 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 청소년관련 기관 및 조직에서 다양한 의사결정 차원 및 구조에서 청소년지도자들에게 보다 많은 권한의 부여, 하위영역별 옹호활동 수행에 따른 맞춤형 전략 수립, 실천현장에 보급할 수 있는 매뉴얼 작업 선행, 정책적 차원에서 청소년지도자의 옹호활동에 관한 연구사업 및 실천현장과의 교류 지원 등의 방안이 마련되었다. 본 연구는 청소년지도자들이 위기상황의 청소년들을 지지하고 대변하는데 유용한 기초자료가 될 것이며 지도과정에 있어서도 적절한 지도원리 및 방법을 가이드해 줄 것이다. 또한 청소년지도자의 역할에 대한 학문적, 이론적 체계를 마련하는데 기본적인 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
