To develop and understand successful knowledge management (KM) systems, social influence factors to share knowledge by email are important issues. This paper investigates important factors for the attitude toward knowledge sharing by email based on social influence theory and self determination theory. An empirical test of the proposed model using online survey was conducted with the undergraduate college students samples who use group emails for class assignments (n = 566). All social influence factors significantly influence knowledge sharing attitude by email (R² = 0.57). Information systems researchers and practitioners will be able to understand the roles of social influence factors in developing and designing KM.
