The purpose of this study was to present an example of haute couture fashion design that prevents reproduction of the same designs and standardization but promotes unique and hand-crafted fashion design. Different forms of flowers were selected from natural objects as the design motif, and flower origami was the technique of choice. First, the formative beauty of flowers and origami technique were reviewed to provide a theoretical background. Examples of fashion design that applied flower or origami technique were examined. Second, the design was progressed. Various flower origami experiments were repeated to complete flower origami with textiles. The formative aesthetic of flower origami made of textiles as well as possibility for developing unique fashion designs were analyzed. Designs focused on creating 3-dimensional silhouettes with flower origami, rather than connecting or attaching flower units. As a result, four flower origami fashion designs using dahlia, peony, green pepper, and morning glory motifs were developed and produced. The results expanded the expression of flower in fashion deign and suggested solutions for making flower origami with textiles. Indeed, the results showed that conventional characteristics of paper origami such as flatness and hardness could be transformed to artistic fashion. Based on this research, further studies could expand the range of study to various items such as jackets or skirt. Also, they could experiment with different kinds of flowers and materials.

본 연구는 수공예적인 오트쿠튀르 패션디자인을 제시하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 수공예적인 요소와 어우러질 수 있는 모티브로 자연 중에서 꽃을 선정하였으며, 종이접기를 표현기법으로 하여 섬세하고 독창적인 꽃 모티브를 표현하고자 하였다. 먼저 꽃의 조형성과 꽃 종이접기 기법, 그리고 꽃의 조형성과 종이접기를 응용한 패션디자인 사례를 고찰하였다. 디자인 테마는 수공예적인 섬세함과 고급스러움, 입체적이고 화사한 꽃 모티브의 조형미를 강조한 파티웨어로 설정하였다. 꽃 종이접기의 단순한 부착보다는 실루엣과 연결되어 새로운 형태를 창조하는데 주안점을 두어 의상에 적용시켰을 때 효과적일 것으로 기대되고 완성도가 높은 꽃 종이접기 기법들을 선정한 후, 디자인을 구체화시켰다. 달리아, 모란, 창포, 나팔꽃 접기를 응용하여 총 4점의 디자인을 제작하였다. 본 연구를 통해 패션디자인에서의 꽃의 조형적 표현영역을 확대하고, 종이접기기법에서의 종이 소재를 패션디자인에 맞게 변용함으로써 새로운 소재기법의 적용에 의한 표현가능성을 확대하였다.
