This paper, focused on a singing and dancing girl and jester group in charge of entertainment, inquired into the entertainment in the latter period of Chosun Dynasty according to the change of social system. The traditional entertainment that passes through modern time to the present has been continued over the traditional period of eighteenth and nineteenth. At the eighteenth and nineteenth a singing and dancing girl and jester group's entertainment was much in fashion through the national event like before or commercial entertainment space in Seoul, and new entertainment space appeared in these eighteenth and nineteenth has been applied as a space that become an accent point with the national entertainment circulated. And, various entertainment categories throughout the country have been diffused to each zone, and it seemed to have the similar national entertainment. The entertainment circulation in the eighteenth and nineteenth can find its cause from the change of entertainment system related to a singing and dancing girl and jester, which has been realized by entertainer's activity and response at the commercial entertainment space in Seoul.

조선조 19세기 춤문화에 대한 고찰은 오늘날과 가장 근접한 전통시기로서 봉건적 삶이 해체되기 직전인 전통체제 속에서의 춤문화의 면모를 살필 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 중인계층의 문화공간에 초점을 맞춘 이유는 조선후기 새로운 문화사적 현상의 주체로 중인층이 부상하였고 이들은 19세기 춤문화에 가장 영향력을 미치고 있기 때문이다. 중인계급의 경제적 성장과 생활의 여유는 문화예술에 대한 향유 욕구를 자극하여 유흥적이고 향락적인 소비문화를 확산시켰으며, 더욱이 지식이나 교양에 있어 양반계층에 못지않았던 이들은 자신들이 처한 신분적 처지에 안주하지 않고 당시의 예인들을 통솔하여 그들의 공연문화권 안에서 주도권을 행사함으로써 19세기 춤문화를 장악하고 있었다. 중인층의 문화공간을 중심으로 하는 춤문화는 서울지역과 향촌지역이 달랐는데 서울지역은 기부나 왈자, 가객으로서 존재하였다. 이들은 기생들을 자신들의 문화 공간으로 끌어들였고 이로써 京鄕 간의 춤문화의 유통이 활성화 되는 작용을 하였다. 지방 중인층들은 지역의 緣故와 가문에 대해서 자긍심을 갖고 있었으며 官이 주도하는 나례희 및 세시행사를 주관했다. 이 행사는 지역민과 중인집단 간의 유대관계를 위한 與民同樂을 위해서였으나 이때 연행된 중인계층들의 탈춤(가면극)은 지역민과 중인층 사이의 신분적 위계질서가 전도될 수 없음을 확인시켜주는 것이기도 했다.
