This is an action research on a theme-based interdisciplinary program. The program is designed in a way of restructuring the 7th National curriculum of the 3rd and 4the grade. The purpose of this study was to describe and understand the changes of the research participants while implementing the program for 35 4th grade students. The integrative theme for the program was 'pet' in which the students were most interested. The program consisted of 16 class periods and integrated subjects were mainly Science, Mathematics, Language arts, and Social studies. For the implementation, teaching materials such as lesson plans, student workbook, Powerpoints, teacher's manual were developed and applied.
The qualitative data were mainly collected by classroom participant observation, student interview, action researcher's field notes, and students' logs.
The whole classes were videotaped and the collected data were triangulated by the other two peer teachers.
Based on the research, first, the students tried to find out the solutions with a way of integrative thinking skill in a given task, which means that they can apply the knowledge from the classroom to a real life. Second, they were more cooperative in a classroom activities, which brought positive learning abilities and class participation. Third, the teacher changed a paradigm of learning and became a facilitator, and the ability of curriculum restructuring was improved.

본 연구는 초등학교 3, 4학년 교육과정을 주제를 중심으로 재구성하여 통합프로그램을 설계하여 적용한 실행연구이다. 35명의 초등학교 4학년 학생들을 대상으로 교사연구자의 통합프로그램 실행과정에서 학생과 교사에게 일어나는 다양한 상황과 변화를 묘사하는데 목적을 두었다. 통합주제 ‘애완동물’을 중심으로 설계한 통합프로그램은 16차시로 구성되었으며, 통합대상교과는 과학, 수학, 국어, 사회였으며, 수업에 필요한 교수.학습과정안, 학생용 학습자료, 교사용 지도자료, 파워포인트 자료 총 네 가지의 수업자료를 개발하고 적용하였다. 자료 수집은 참여관찰과 면담, 실행 과정에서의 실행일지, 학생들의 학습일지, 포트폴리오, 관찰 내용과 면담기록, 사진과 동영상 자료, 평가지와 과제 수행지, 워크북 등을 통해 이루어졌다.
연구를 통해 학생들의 변화로는 통합적 안목의 생성, 협동심의 증가, 그리고 흥미도와 참여도의 증가를 발견하였으며, 학습에 대한 패러다임의 변화, 교육과정 재구성 능력의 신장 등 교사의 변화가 있었다.
