The purpose of this study is to properly recognize a value of raising an animal, enhance an interest and basic function on raising an animal through an experience learning of raising diverse pet animals, examine the effect of a series of experience activities on a social and emotional development of an elementary school student. The coverage for experiment was 40 students in a class of the 6th grade of N elementary school located in A city. In this study, to verify the effect on a change of a social and emotional aspect after performing an experience learning of raising pet animals for 4 months, the preliminary and follow-up examinations were conducted with the same examination paper. The summary of the result obtained in this study is as follows: First, as a result of a verification on law observance, cooperation, sociality, and independence, which were subordinate variables in a social realm, after an experience learning of raising pet animals, in the examination of law observance, the average of preliminary examination was 14.08 and the average of follow-up examination was 16.13(p<.05). Second, as a result of a verification on internal control, stability in school, accomplishment motive, and curiosity, which were subordinate variables in an emotional realm, after an experience learning of raising pet animals, in the examination of internal control, a subordinate variable in an emotional realm, the average of preliminary examination was 15.65 and the average of follow-up examination was 17.20(p<.05). Lastly, in the follow-up examination on accomplishment motive, a subordinate variable in an emotional realm, the average of preliminary examination was 13.53 and the average of follow-up examination was 14.7 (p<.05).

이 연구의 목적은 동물 기르기의 가치를 바르게 인식하고/ 애완동물 기르기 체험학습을 통하여 초등학생의 사회·정서적 발달에 어떠한 영향을 미치게 되는가를 알아보고자 하였으며 이 연구에서 얻어진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째/ 애완동물 기르기 체험학습 후에 사회적 영역의 하위 변인인 준법성 l 협동성/ 사교성/ 자주성에 대한 검증 결과 사회적 영역의 하위 변인인 t 준법성’의 검사에서는 사전검사의 평균이 14.08점 y 사후검사의 평균이 16.13점으로 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 분석되었다(p<.05). 둘째/ 애완동불 기르기 체험학습 후에 정서적 영역의 하위 변인인 내적통제， 학교에서의 안정감/ 성취동기/ 호기심에 대한 검증 결과 정서적 영역의 하위 변인인 /내적통제’의 검사에서는 사전 검사의 평균이 15.65 점 l 사후검사의 평균이 17.20점으로 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 분석되었다(p<.05). 정서적 영역의 하위 변인인 /성취동기’의 사후검사에서는 사전검사의 평균이 13.53 점/ 사후검사의 평균이 14.70점으로 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 분석되었다(p<.05). 이 연구의 결과를 통해 초등학생의 애완동물 기르기 체험학습이 사회·정서적 발달에 바람직한 영향을 준다는 사실이 검증되었으며 특히 준법성/ 내적통제/ 성취동기의 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 사설이 규명되었다.
