Recently, one of the concepts that has been frequently discussed in moral education(ethics) is moral imagination. It is the essential ability which people need to possess in order to behave with intrinsic delicacy and responsibility to others. In moral education, various kinds of class materials have been used to build moral imagination. All community in the same age has no choice but to share ethical consciousness for survival. Therefore, teaching methods using literature, history, and psychology can be good examples for moral education. While the research of those teaching approaches is actively in progress, there is few teaching methods developed that use fine arts. In this thesis, the fact that fine arts or masterpiece in the textbooks of ethics can be made good use of class materials is focused. As a way of building moral imagination in moral education, the practical use of fine arts is going to be researched here. The theoretical background of the application of fine arts and moral imagination has been represented, and fine arts or masterpiece in the government-published textbooks from seventh curriculum have been analyzed in this thesis. The application of fine arts in the authorized textbooks of the 1st grade of middle school in 2010, which will be applied from the revised curriculum, will be discussed here.

최근에 도덕과 교육에서 활발하게 논의되는 개념들 중의 하나는 도덕적 상상력이다. 도덕적 상상력이란 주어진 상황 속에서 도덕적으로 행동하기 위해 다양한 가능성을 상상적으로 분별하기 위한 능력이다. 즉, 타인에게 내적인 섬세함과 책임감을 가지고 행동하기 위해 소유해야 할 능력인 것이다. 따라서 도덕과 교육에서는 도덕적 상상력을 기르기 위해 다양한 수업 자료를 활용한다. 동시대에 살고 있는 모든 공동체는 생존을 위해 윤리의식을 공유하지 않을 수 없다. 그러므로 문학과 역사 그리고 철학을 활용한 수업 방법들은 도덕과 교육의 좋은 예라고 할 수 있다. 도덕과 교육에서 문학과 역사 그리고 철학을 활용한 연구는 활발히 진행되고 있지만, 명화를 활용한 방법은 많지 않다. 본 논문에서는 도덕 교과서를 장식하고 있는 명화 역시 중요한 수업자료로 활용할 수 있음에 주목한다. 따라서 도덕적 상상력을 키우기 위한 방법으로 명화의 활용에 대해서 살펴보았다. 명화의 활용과 도덕적 상상력 그리고 그 이론적 근거를 살펴보고, 현행 제 7차 도덕과 교육과정과 개정 교육과정에서 활용된 명화를 분석해 보았다. 또한 2009년 개정 교육과정에 의해 적용되는 도덕 검정 교과서의 명화 활용과 시사점을 살펴보았다.
