This study aims to understand the teachers' perceptions of youth volunteer activities for the purpose of promoting an efficient operation and facilitation of youth volunteer activities. A qualitative case study method was selected based on teacher's self-report and interview. The high school located in the major city was selected because of its' teacher-led volunteering program. Six popular volunteering activity programs were chosen for the case to investigate the educational value and effects of these programs. The results demonstrated that high school volunteering program is most effective when teachers, parents and students of educational community work together as the member of the volunteering program and it is concluded that teachers' roles are very important in activating youth volunteer activities. The study suggests that in order to make the youth volunteer activities accomplish their educational purposes as a democratic citizen, teachers should be involved in the whole process of the volunteering activities and the parents should help them as a co-worker. Second, there should be various professional development programs and incentives for both teachers and parents to support high school students and make an effective volunteering program as well. 청소년기의 자원봉사활동은 체험학습을 통해서 개인적 만족감을 증진시킬 뿐만 아니라 사회참여의 기회와 사회적 책임을 실천할 기회가 된다는 점에서 매우 중요한 의미를 가진다. 그러나 청소년기에 있는 고등학교 학생들 가운데 일반계 고등학교 학생들의 생활은 인성교육을 무시한 입시위주의 교육형태가 여전히 이루어지고 있어 봉사활동을 마음껏 할 수 없는 현실이 문제가 되고 있다. 그러므로 본 연구는 교사들을 중심으로 만들어진 고등학교 '1 교사 1 봉사 동아리'의 특징을 살펴보고, 교사들이 경험한 내용을 토대로 그러한 활동이 과연 참여자들에게 자원봉사자로서의 태도에 어떠한 효과를 가져왔는지를 이해하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이 연구를 위해 경기도 소재 인문계 고등학교를 대상으로 질적 사례연구를 실시하여, 봉사활동 주제별로 6개의 사례를 선정하여 개인면담과 활동 소감문을 토대로 봉사동아리의 취지와 목적, 활동내용, 활동성과 및 문제점 등을 구체적으로 살펴보았다. ‘1 교사 1 봉사 동아리’를 통하여 교사들이 경험하고 인식한 학생 봉사활동의 성과는 다음과 같이 세 가지로 나타났다. 첫째, 봉사활동을 통해 이기주의를 극복하고, 더불어 살아가는 사회의 중요성을 깨닫게 됨과 동시에 어렵고 소외된 계층을 이해하게 되었다. 둘째, 교사·학생·학부모의 상호 협력을 통한 유대관계를 증진하고 공동체의식을 함양하였다. 셋째, 진정한 봉사인의 자세 확립과 지속적인 자원봉사의 중요성 인식, 학교에 대한 자긍심을 고취하게 되었다. 따라서 학생봉사활동에 대한 교사들의 변화를 위해서는 무엇보다 교사들의 학생봉사활동 지도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 찾아내고 이를 강화해 줌으로써 교사들을 점진적으로 학생봉사활동 관리자로 변화시키는 것이 필요함을 제언하였다.
