Diachronic Comparative Study of Hangul(Korean alphabet) Policy and Translation Strategy for the Same Shaped Chinese Characters of Synonym: With Focus on Cases of Japanese Literary Translation
초록
영어
This study conducted diachronic analysis on how Hangul policies have influenced Japanese literary translation by mainly subjecting the words that are comprised of Chinese characters of the same shapes and meaning, and translated from Japanese into Korean. The results revealed how changing Hangul policies have influenced Japanese literary translation: Hangul Only Policy has lowered the ratio in Korean translated texts of Chinese characters marked in parenthesis next to Hangul. In other words, the policy encouraged to use only Hangul in translated texts, in contrast to the past practice of marking Chinese characters in parenthesis next to translated Hangul words. In particular, This tendency is conspicuous in translation of Chinese characters which have the same shapes and similar meaning in both languages. The finding indicates that the Hangul policy has exerted direct influence on the Japanese literary translation.
