Insurance education in Korean business school has really started since the mid 1980s when the several universities opened the department of insurance with the growth of insurance industry. With the changes in environment over more than 20 years the current insurance education system needs to be redirected for the future. In this regard this study reviewed the past and the present of our curriculum of insurance education in business schools and tried to propose the way of improving the education quality and performance. After reviewing the curriculums of 13 insurance programs and 44 business administration and international trade programs which open insurance subjects, the author found some problems in the curriculums and the operation of programs and proposed the build-up of risk management oriented insurance programs, 6 required subjects enriched with risk management, and the production of insurance and risk management scholars.

국내 보험산업의 성장과 함께 1980년대 중반 이후 우리나라 경상계 대학에 보험관련학과가 설치되기 시작한지 20년이 지난 즈음 그간의 보험학 교육에 대한 검토와 새로운 방향설정이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 우리나라 보험교육의 과거와 현재를 조명해보고, 미래 대학 보험교육의 질적인 향상과 교육성과를 높이기 위한 개선방안을 교육과정을 중심으로 제시하고자 한다. 국내 4년제 대학교 중 경상계 대학이나 학과를 설치한 168개교 중 13개 보험관련학과와 ‘보험학원론’을 개설하는 44개 경영학과나 무역학과의 보험관련과목과 그 운영을 분석하여 문제점을 도출하고 향후 개선방안으로 ‘리스크관리’를 중심으로 하는 보험학의 학문체계 강화와 필수이수과목, 전공학자의 양성을 제안한다.
