This study was conducted to examine how esthetician's demographic characteristics and job-related environmental factors affect their sanitary behavior. To measure sanitary behaviour a survey was conducted to 225 estheticians aged 20 to 37 years working in either Seoul or Kyunggi Province during the period between 17 March to 13 May in 2010. The present study investigated 6 demographic variables including age, educational level, marital status, monthly income level, work location (Seoul or Kyunggi Province) and the length of career as an esthetician, and 7 job-related environmental variables such as qualifications as an esthetician, medical institutions they work, number of beds at work, where they were trained for sanitary practice, level of job satisfaction, ventilation methods at work and frequency of washing uniforms. Data were analysed using either t-test or oneway ANOVA with PASW statistical package program. It was found that all 7 job-related environmental variables significantly affect sanitary behaviour of estheticians. Of 6 demographic variables, however, educational level, marital status, monthly income level and where they work were found to be significant factors. It is interesting to note that age and the length of career as an esthetician were not linked with level of sanitary behaviour.

본 연구는 메디컬 스킨케어 관리사의 인구학적 요인과 직무 관련 환경 요인이 보건행위 실천에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 확인하기 위하여 실시되었다. 보건행위는 ‘개인 또는 집단의 건강유지 증진을 위한 행위 또는 건강상 바람직한 행위’로 표현할 수 있으며 이를 사업장에서 실천하는데 있어서 인구학적 및 직무 환경적 요인과의 연관성을 연구하고자 한 것이다. 참여자는 서울과 수도권 지역에서 근무하는 20세-37세의 메디컬 스킨케어 관리사 225명이었으며 이들을 대상으로 2010년 3월 17일부터 2010년 5월 13일까지 횡단적 조사연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구에 포함된 인구학적 요인으로는 연령, 학력, 결혼여부, 월평균수입, 근무지역(서울/경기)과 경력기간 등 6개의 요인이었으며, 직무와 관련된 환경요인으로는 메디컬 스킨케어 관리사 자격취득의 종류, 근무하는 병원의 종류, 피부관리실의 베드수, 보건교육을 받은 곳, 직무만족도, 근무지의 실내환기 방법과 세탁빈도 등 7개의 요인이었다. PASW 통계 프로그램의 t-test 또는 ANOVA를 사용하여 자료를 분석한 결과 직무와 관련된 7개의 환경요인은 예외 없이 모든 요인이 보건 실천행위에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 6개의 인구학적 요인 중에서는 4개의 요인, 즉 학력, 결혼여부, 월평균수입 그리고 근무지역이 보건실천행위에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 연령과 경력기간이 보건행위 실천 정도와 무관한 것으로 나타난 것은 흥미로운 결과이다.
