This research aims to investigate stage design which, in cooperation with Ballets Russes, has been conducted, since Mikhail Larionov announced the ‘Rayonism Declaration’. This thesis investigates early 20th century Russian Rayonism and the tendencies of Ballets Russes separately, with studies concerning Mikhail Larionov’s artistic activities, as well as his cooperative works with Ballets Russes. Rayonism, pursued by Larionov, first assumes the role of the intersection of past and present by constructing an area of abstract painting purely with patterns of light, using images that ignite and awaken to color. Secondly, colors and lines fragmentized and stacked up divided by space are made to organically interact with each other by light rays. Rayonism was a form never attempted prior in paintings or any stage design, including that of Ballet Russes. His paintings were not limited to singular planes, but he worked for Ballets Russes to create and achieve ‘direct practices’, finally making a huge contribution to the new stage design with ‘Icon’, ‘Lubok’, ‘Geometric Patterns with Autonomous Forms’ and ‘Exaggeration and Distortion’, through the pursuit of Rayonism. Mikhail Larionov, hence, leading the era, created much innovation and modern stages work, and greatly contributed to developing Stage Design.

이 연구는 미하일라리오노프가 ‘광선주의 선언문’을 발표한 뒤 발레 뤼스에 합류하여 행한 무대미술을 연구하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 논문은 20세기 초 러시아광선주의와 발레 뤼스의 동향으로 나누어 이를 토대로 살펴보고, 라리오노프의 발레 뤼스협력 작품과 발레 뤼스에서의 예술활동을 연구로 진행하였다. 미하일라리오노프(Larionov)가 추구한 광선주의(Rayonism)는 첫째, 러시아의 색채를 느끼게 하는 이미지를 가지고, 무대미술에서 순수하게 빛의 모양으로 추상회화의 영역을 구축하며 과거와 현대의 교차로 같은 역할을 하였다. 둘째, 공간분할에 의해 파편화되면서 겹겹이 싸여진 색채와 선들이 광선에 의해 서로 유기적 작용을 하도록 하였다. 광선주의는 회화는 물론 발레 뤼스를 포함한 어떠한 무대미술 있어서, 이전까지 한 번도 구성된 적이 없던 형태였다. 그의 회화는 단일 평면에 국한하지 않고 ‘직접적인 실천’을 위해 발레 뤼스(Ballets Russes)에서 활동한 결과 그가 추구한 광선주의를 통해 ‘이콘(Icon)’과 ‘루복(Lubok)’, ‘자율적인 형의 기하학적인 모양’ 그리고 ‘과장과 왜곡’은 새로운 무대미술에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 이 에미하일라리오노프는 시대의 선두에 서서 보다 혁신적이고 현대적인 무대를 창출해내며 무대미술을 발달시키는데 지대한 공헌을 하였다.
