Wonhyo, a buddhist priest and society-enlightening leader who believed in practicing mercy, achieved the state of Enlightenment, returned to his home, and danced the ‘Mooechum’ which contained the Mooe ideology for the psychological therapy and education of people who were suffering in the aftermath of the War of the Three Kingdoms. The most significant reason why I was interested in recovering Wonhyo's unique ‘Mooechum’ was because Wonhyo stumbled upon the motions of the dance while meditating, and tried to discover their origin. During my search, it was found that the movements I had discovered were similar to the motions of the 'Mooechum' dance, which was recorded in the ancient text Pahanjip. Especially, Wonhyo used the name Mooe from Hwaeomgyeong and Yooshik, which has the strongest psychological aspect to ‘Mooechum’ ideology. Therefore, ‘Mooechum’ has not only the philosophical aspect, but it should also be continued as the first Buddhist dance, and it is good enough to become the first form of integrative art therapy. The reason is because the ‘Mooechum’ matches the integrative art therapy concepts suggested by Jung's ‘Active Imagination’ or Martin's ‘Authentic Movements’, which are the theoretical foundation of contemporary art therapy in the aspect of accepting the holistic philosophy.

불교 사상가이자 자비 실천 사회 계몽 지도자인 원효는 입당구법도 중에 깨닫고 돌아와서, 삼국전쟁으로 고통 받던 민중의 심신치료와 교화를 위해 걸림 없는 무애 사상을 담은 ‘무애춤’을 추었다. 논자가 원효의 독창적인 ‘무애 춤’ 복원에 관심을 갖게 된 결정적인 사유는 명상도중 움직임이 일어남을 체험하고 그 동작을 연구하던 중, 옛 문헌인 파한집에 기록된 ‘무애춤’의 춤사위와 많이 유사하다는 것을 발견하였기 때문이다. 특히 원효는 화엄경에서 무애(無㝵)라는 이름과 불교의 심리학적인 측면이 가장 강한 유식을 ‘무애 춤’ 사상에 인용하였다. 따라서 ‘무애 춤’은 치료철학적인 면뿐만 아니라 학문의 통섭 차원에서 불교 무용의 효시로 면면히 이어가야 함은 물론 통합예술치료의 효시로서 자리매김하기에 충분하다고 본다. 그것은 ‘무애춤’이 홀리스틱(holistic) 철학을 수용하는 통합적 관점에서 현대 예술 심리 치료의 이론적 바탕인 융(Jung) 의 ‘적극적 명상’이나 마틴(Martin)의 ‘진정한 동작’ 등의 통합예술치료 작업개념에 부합하기 때문이다.
