The purpose of this thesis was to examine and interpret phenomenology approach on Korean dances of Holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties professionally related with Korean dances. The major points of research interests in this thesis focused on the understanding and investigation of expressive significance through and about dances of Holders of important Intangible Cultural Properties performing special structures of Korean dances among Korean traditional arts. A generally used in-depth interviewing method was selected among many qualitative research approaches to investigate these goals The collected data were systemized, categorized and integrated after classifying their significances. From the researches of phenomenology approach of the Holders of important Intangible Cultural Properties toward the Korean dance and significances of expression of Korean dances were interpreted in detail and reached the following conclusions. The subdivided research areas in this thesis on phenomenology approach of the Holders of important Intangible Cultural Properties toward the Korean dance included as follows : The significances of expression of Korean dances were subdivided for researches based on dancing, life style and education. In conclusions, phenomenology approach of the Holders of important Intangible Cultural Properties toward Korean dances deeply explained theoretical backgrounds of Korean dances as also described in a wide scope of literary studies and many precedent researches.

본 연구는 문화와 역사와 민족의 관계 형성 속에서 그 맥을 이어온 한국 전통춤이 표방하는 의미가 무엇인지를 구명한 것이다. 연구 방법은 중요무형문화재 예능보유자들을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하는 현상학적 질적 연구 방법을 채택하였다. 한국춤의 표현적 의미를 무용론적 의미, 생활론적 의미, 교육론적 의미로 세분화하여 접근하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 무용론적 의미 : 한국 전통춤은 극과 극의 대조 및 조화, 심성 및 정신세계의 표출로 구분지어 개념을 탐구할 수 있었다. 극복과 승화의 정점에서 정신세계를 표출하고, 치우침 없는 조화로운 감정의 구도가 차원 높은 정신 수양의 세계를 구축하는 것이었다. 2) 생활론적 의미 : 한국 전통춤은 생활의 기능, 공동체의 응집이었다. 평이한 일상생활에서 춤이 시작되었으며, 그 생활 의 중심에서 또한, 춤을 통한 응집의 효과를 기대할 수 있었던 것이다. 3) 교육론적 의미 : 한국 전통춤에서는 문화유지와 문화 창조, 충효, 예악 사상을 강조하고 있었다. 우리의 전통문화를 유지, 계승시키는 것이 궁극엔 보수와 개발의 양측면의 균형적인 발전을 이끌 수 있음을 새삼스럽게 발견할 수 있었다. 한국 전통 춤에 내재되어 있는 표현적 의미의 철학세계는, 유구한 역사가 녹아들어 있는 사상 철학의 결정판이라고 말할 수 있겠다. 슬픔을 이겨내는 승화와 어우러지는 조화의 정신 세계와 그 정신 세계관을 제시하고 표출하는 표현법이 존재한다. 또한 일상생활의 면모도 춤의 여러 형태와 테크닉에서 쉽사리 발견할 수 있는 것은 곧 춤의 원천이 생활이고 생활이 춤인, 차원 높은 문화 수준을 의미한다고 볼 수 있겠다. 마지막으로 춤으로 심성을 교화하고 인성을 배양한다는 것을 교육론적 의미에서 철학적으로 탐구, 구명(求命)됨으로서, 우리 전통춤의 우수한 전인교육적 능력을 다시 한번 명백히 찾아 볼 수 있었다.
