This paper studies on the Brazilian ethanol industry and focuses on its historical development and economic growth. It analyzes the dynamic process of its emergence and the long-term development through the 20th century and today as well. The 'energy security' concept is used as main variable for explaining ethanol energy development in Brazil, including various dimensions such as ethanol energy itself, energy policies within domestic boundary for balancing of energy demand and supply, and international factors involved in 'resource diplomacy' and international expansion of this energy. Even though this paper accepts the pre-studies, the main arguments are quite different. it is mainly argued with more international political economic dimension in which have influenced on the ethanol diplomacy with many countries such as the USA, Europe, Africa and Asian region. In addition, this paper strongly argues that the ethanol energy have developed with a method of responding 'climate change' in the existing environmental issues such as low-carbon renewable energy matter and its influence on international societies. Finally, this paper addresses some debates about the critics and limits of this industry and delivers prospects as well.
