This paper gives an overview of research on individual performance. Individual performance is highly important for an organization as a whole and for the individuals working in it. Performance comprises both a behavioral and an outcome aspect. It is a multi- dimensional and dynamic concept. This paper presents three perspectives on performance: an individual differences perspective with a focus on individual characteristics as sources for variation in performance; a situational perspective with a focus on situational aspects as facilitators and impediments for performance; and a performance regulation perspective with a focus on the performance process. The paper describes how current changes in the nature of work such as the focus on continuous learning and proactivity, increase in team work, improved technology, and trends toward globalization have an impact on the performance concept and future performance research.

개인성과는 성과행위 당사자뿐만 아니라 개인이 일하고 있는 조직에 있어서도 매우 중요한 의미를 가진다. 개인성과는 행동 측면의 성과와 결과 측면의 성과로 구성되며 다차원적이고 동태적인 개념이다. 이 논문은 성과의 관점에 대한 다양한 이론들을 검토하고 정리하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 성과 관련 이론연구의 검토 결과 성과는 다음의 세 가지 관점을 가지고 있는 것으로 확인되었다: 첫째, 성과 차이의 원천으로서 개인 특성에 초점을 둔 개인차 관점, 둘째 성과의 지원 및 자극으로서의 상황 측면에 초점을 둔 상황 관점, 셋째 성과과정에 초점을 둔 성과통제 관점. 본 연구에서는 이들 관점 각각에 대해서 그 내용을 정리하고 관점들간 상호 비교를 행하였다. 이와 더불어 현재 진행되고 있는 조직내 직무의 변화가 성과 컨셉에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 검토하였다. 오늘날 조직이 직면하고 있는 환경변화, 지속적 학습 및 인적자원개발, 주도성의 중시, 팀작업의 증대, 기술진보, 세계화 등이 성과 개념에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 마지막으로 성과연구의 향후 과제를 검토하였다.
