Throughout history, the existence of public footpaths in the U.K. has been systematized,
protected, and promoted by the administration, the environmental activist groups, volunteers, and other organizations. The enforcement of The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 is worthy of notice. This paper will examine the close relation between public footpaths and green tourism in the U.K, and symbiosis of land owners, animals, nature, and walkers, which include tourists.

近年における観光現象の多様化とともに、「観光」がどのような影響をもつのかに関しても注目されるようになった。地球の温暖化、環境汚染が叫ばれる中、「観光」の功罪という側面についても指摘されている。と同時それによって「エコツーリズム」、「グリーンツーリズム」というものも浸透してきた。本論文では、イギリスのパブリックフットパスの存在とイギリスのグリーンツーリズムとの関係について調査することで、「観光」と「環境」の共存について考察する。
