MB government introduced a strategy of 5+2 Economic Regions for the new regional development policy replacing the last government’s the Balanced National Development policy. The main programs of the new regional development strategy are implementing key infrastructure projects, building institutional bases for the key infrastructure projects, and establishing governance systems for the Economic Regional Development. This study proposed a developmental direction of governance of the Economic Regions focused on the Capital Economic Region: critically reviewed the status, participants, scope of agenda, and management style of the governance and suggested some preliminary proposals for improving that.

이명박 정부는 참여정부의 국가균형발전전략을 대체하는 지역발전전략으로서 5+2 광역경제권을 제시하였다. 5+2 광역경제권의 추진전략은 관련 기반 구축, 선도 프로젝트 추진, 추진체계 확립이며 이중 추진체계 확립을 위해서 광역경제 발전위원회를 설치하고 광역경제권발전계획을 수립하고 있다. 본 연구는 수도권 광역경제발전위원회를 사례로 광역경제권 거버넌스의 발전방향을 제시한 연구다. 거버넌스의 위상, 참여 주체와 의제 범위, 운영방식 측면에서 문제와 대안을 제시 하고, 향후 논의사항을 제안하였다.
