Study of water holding capacity and water retention ability of bacterial cellulose produced with addition of glucoronic acid oligomers

초록

영어

Bacterial cellulose (BC) has unique properties such as biocompatibility, polyfunctionality, hydrophilicity and low production cost. The high water holding capacity (WHC) and water retention (WR) ability are among the best properties of BC which make it suitable to be used in
different biomedical applications. BC has a broad prospective for application in different fields including artificial skins, blood vessels, face masks, wound dressing and control drug release etc. In the present study, BC was prepared by Gluconacetobacter hansenii PJK and Acetobacter xylinum in static culture by adding 1 % glucoronic acid oligomers (GO) as an additional substance to the chemically defined medium. WHC and WR values of the prepared BC sheets prepared at different experimental conditions were determined and compared. WHC and WRvalues of the BC sheets prepared with GO were higher compared to control and similarly, these were higher for A. xylinum compared to G. hansenii PJK.
